Be Unique

Are we one-of-a-kind or a copycat?

When we get into a rut, our vision is short-sighted. We struggle as we do the same thing over and over and don’t seem to make any headway. It’s not until we get a fresh perspective or a change from the norm when we finally break out of that rut and move forward.

Sometimes these out-of-the-box thinkers come from unexpected sources. They come from others who aren’t in the trenches seeing the usual day to day grind. They are ones who have innovative ideas, creative solutions, and ingenious plans because they aren’t conditioned in organizational traditions. Their fresh ideas shift us into a new direction that not only gets us out of our rut, but starts us on an alternative path of positive change.

But we all have that ingenuity inside of ourselves. It’s just stifled from coloring in the lines, lock-stepping with others, and becoming like everyone else. When we blend in, we lose our uniqueness. We just become one of the many instead of one in the many.

God created every one of us idiosyncratically. We are all one-of-a-kind. He created us specifically for a purpose and designed us for greatness. If we try to copy others, fit into the molds of society, and follow the crowd, we lose the power of our unique God-given design.

It’s time to break out of that mold and flourish in God’s design. It’s time to show the world who God made instead of covering it up and disguising ourselves to be something we’re not. Once we discover our own uniqueness, we need to share it with the world. Then the ruts of old traditions will fade away and creativity will unleash to change the world.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16
