Who is at the receiving end of our goals?

Sometimes we go too far when we pursue excellence. We don’t realize the demands we put on others as we charge ahead with our own vision of the final product or outcome. We may demand extra time and effort to get it done right. Meanwhile, we are creating a lot of unnecessary anxiety in others without even knowing it.

It takes a bold person to stand up and speak out when conditions aren’t conducive to learning or to a healthy work environment. People may not be aware of how unrealistic expectations can undermine the end goal. Ignoring others' needs and capabilities can deplete joy and increase stress.

It’s great to have goals and visions of what could be. But if we step on others to get there, we need to stop and examine our motives. Are we doing this for them? For ourselves? Or for God? If we do it for ourselves, we get a self-serving result. If we do it for them, they will benefit from our efforts. But if we do it for God, we will have vision, resilience, courage, and love. The outcome will be supernatural and life-changing.

The next time we take on an endeavor, let’s do it for the Lord. Let’s commit to do it His way and offer the final product to Him as an offering of our love and devotion to Him. Remember, it’s not about us, it’s about Him. The more we put Him at the center of our lives, the more lives we will touch with the power of the Holy Spirit.

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
