God's Design

Some of us pursue a college degree that society rewards instead of what we are hard-wired to do. The artistically gifted often pursue practical paths, rather than their passions. After we graduate, we either cling to our interests and never use our degree, or we use our degree on a career path that leaves us feeling unfulfilled. We chase the almighty dollar to pay the bills instead of honing our giftedness for His purpose.

What it may boil down to is a lack of trust. We don’t trust ourselves to make a good enough living to survive if we go the artistic route. So, we listen to the “wisdom” of others who steer us toward something that will ensure a salary that’ll provide for all our needs and wants. But is that what God has designed us to do?

God has given everyone gifts and talents. He designed us specifically for a purpose. He wants us to enjoy our lives and use our giftedness to reach our full potential. God wants us to trust Him and He will provide.

We need not live in the cookie cutter lifestyle that the world wants to force us into. He designed us to be unique and creative, and to live out our dreams. We mustn’t stifle our hopes with practicality. That casts doubt on ourselves and our God. We must be confident in our Creator, who has designed us to become so much more than our limited version of ourselves. Then we will flourish and blossom into something unimaginable and reach our dreams with the help and provisions of our Lord.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” James 1:17

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11

“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.” Exodus 31:3-5

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:6-8
