Tragedy brings out the best in us.

September 11th marks a tragic day in United States history. Terrorists hijacked several commercial planes to intimidate America. They destroyed countless lives by crashing planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Another plane was on course to the White House, but passengers onboard overtook the terrorists. They diverted the plane’s course and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. These heroes saved those in the White House and ended the mass destruction efforts of al-Qaeda terrorists.

Over three thousand people died that day. Each year since, Americans remember the lives lost that tragic day and the brave men and women who sacrificed so much for the well-being of others. We remember the first responders who risked their own lives to save others from harm’s way.

But even amid all the tragedy, heroes surfaced and made a difference. The nation pulled together to render aid, donate time and resources, and offer their expertise. Even though it was a devastating time for our nation, it created a reason to unify, love our neighbors, and help humanity in their greatest hour of need.

This resonates with our spirits because it resembles what Christ did for us. Jesus laid down His life for us and offers us healing, comfort, grace, and unconditional love. He made the ultimate sacrifice for the entire world.

But He doesn’t want us to just be on the receiving end of His love. He wants to turn us into the heroes who wield the Holy Spirit. We do not need to be afraid because the God of the universe has our backs. So, by His power, we can go forth to save the lost, reach out to others before the flames of Hell consume them, and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Therefore, don’t let tragedy have the upper hand. We can face it head on with the power of God. He will turn any tragedy we face into a ministry to save lives.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
