What is our net worth?

When we are vying for a job or internship position, we need to highlight our strengths. Some people find it difficult to see their strengths and feel awkward tooting their own horn. But realistically, it’s important to show the prospective employer that you are qualified and that you have the skills they are looking for.

After we generate our resume and cover letter, we realize how much we truly have accomplished. When we see it all in front of our eyes, our confidence rises and we recognize we are a strong contender after all.

Our society discolors our worth based on the values of its own making. Our culture makes us feel like just a number, that we need to be young and beautiful to get ahead, or that we are nothing without that special product or service. We’ve heard the messages over and over and then we believe it. So, when it comes time to talk about our strengths, we see more flaws than feats.

Our worth comes from God. He designed us all uniquely and specifically for a purpose. We should not criticize our Maker’s work. In the same breath, we must not base our worth on our achievements or accolades, but on our Creator, who made us with special care. He empowers us, equips us for any task ahead, and gives us the tools to get things done.

So we need not fret if we get the job. If it is in His design, it will happen. We must trust Him to open the doors at the opportune time and prepare the way so that we will not only grow and thrive, but that we will impact the world with His grace and love. Remember, the end goal is not a specific career or pursuit, it’s His purpose and His will. That’s why we’re here. That job or internship is merely an avenue to reach people along the way.
