Missed
Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

The benefit of going through tough times is that we develop an appreciation for things we normally take for granted. When things are so regular in our lives, we don’t notice them as much. It takes their absence for us to realize their importance. We are so grateful when we regain normalcy and comfort in our lives.
Relationships are the same. When we see the same person every day, we can easily take them for granted. Perhaps that’s why we are a little less kind to those we see daily than to those we meet for the first time or have a mere acquaintance with. They have become such a part of our lives that we’ve become so comfortable that we sometimes treat them disrespectfully.
It takes their absence to make us realize how important they’ve been in our lives. There’s a hole in our hearts. We treasure the moments we spent together and wished we appreciated them more while they were with us.
We may want to examine our hearts and see if our relationship with God has become mundane, unappreciated, and taken for granted. He is with us always and His love for us is constant. Since it never changes, we might go about our lives without gratitude for who He is and all He’s done for us.
Each new day is a gift from Him. God places each person in our lives and intricately woven them into the fabric of our history for a reason. He gave each of us talents, provisions, and a tremendous amount of blessings. When we walk out the door each morning, He is with us.
Let us not take Him for granted. He wants to see fresh growth in us, disclose unique revelations, and continue to nurture our spirits as we live out every day of our lives. Without Him there would be darkness. Fill your hearts with gratitude and appreciation for the Father of Lights, the God of the universe, and our Lord and Savior. It’s not only the most crucial relationship that we’ll ever have, it’s the one relationship that we cannot live without.
“Those who honor me I will honor.” 1 Samuel 2:30
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
“Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14 (RSV)
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-39
