Our Finances
What is the return on our investments?

We accumulate so many financial accounts over the years that it’s easy to lose track of them all. Companies offer enticing incentives, so we’ll sign up and get their credit card. Before long, we end up with a menagerie of investment accounts and passwords and a wallet bursting with cards.
We stockpile gift cards and coupons. Since many give gift cards for special occasions, we get quite a collection by year’s end. We love bargains, so we clip coupons. But with both items, it’s easy to lose track.
When salespersons tug us this way and that, we’re vulnerable to buy impulsively. We end up mismanaging our assets, making our finances out of control. We become an easy target for scammers and swindlers. That’s when we need to stop, pray for God’s wisdom, and not let our spontaneous emotions have the reins on our bank accounts. We need to manage what God has blessed us with so we can be a blessing to others.
God wants us to be good stewards of our money. He wants us to be wise and responsible. He wants us to use it for His glory and not hoard it for our personal gain. God wants us to be generous and omit greed from the equation. He wants us to manage it well and not let it control our lives. He also wants us to keep it in proper perspective and not let our assets be our god.
Once we have the priorities and wisdom of God, then we can make positive choices. We can get our finances in order, even if it means seeking help from a trusted friend or financial adviser. Then we will maximize our earnings, use our funds efficiently, leverage or minimize our debt, and get our heads above water.
When we simplify our assets, credit cards, gift cards, and coupons, we streamline our holdings and make it much more manageable. Our stress level decreases, our confidence builds, and our assets maximize. If we invest wisely, we receive great returns. But if we invest in His Kingdom, the returns will be far greater than we ever imagined.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8
“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy 6:10
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also…No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:19-21, 24
