Our Protector

The sins of humanity cause us to put extreme measures for protection in place. Security systems, door locks, and law enforcement are standard safeguards. Since we never know when someone is going to break laws, we need to keep our guard up. We must make it impossible for them to follow through with their evil plans.

Sadly, no system on earth is foolproof. Thieves break in and steal. Hackers takeover computers. And mass shootings slaughter the innocent. No matter how hard we try to keep danger at bay, it seeps between the cracks and penetrates our lives with horrific events and unstoppable harm.

We may ask why God would allow such things to happen. If we take a step back and see it all from God’s perspective, we are all sinners. We all fall short of His glory. He has given us freewill to make our choices. Otherwise, we will all be puppets on strings or programmed robots, carefully orchestrated to do whatever He wants. This creates not only a falsification of actual love for others and for God, but it also denies us the freedom to choose.

The fruit of the Spirit emerges when we surrender to the power of God. Then the Holy Spirit brings forth fruit as we make choices that sanctify us and disarm the evil one.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

If we allow the Holy Spirit to rule in our hearts, we will bear this fruit in our lives. If we do not have God in our lives or if we are on the throne and push God into the background, the absence of this fruit will be obvious in our motives, words, and actions.

Even though security measures are limited, they still provide a sense of protection. But God is the ultimate Protector. He sees us through all the storms of our lives and equips us for anything that comes our way. He guides, protects, and delivers us from all evil. But most of all, no one can ever snatch us away from Him. We are His for all eternity because of Jesus’ work on the cross. That is our ultimate freedom from the sins of humanity.

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28
