Selection

If you have to select one person, it can be difficult. Especially if the candidate pool has many qualified people. Then we may base our decision on personality, presence, confidence, or some other defining characteristic.

Then there’s the flip side of choosing the elite. We exclude those who we don’t select. Rejection hurts feelings, creates self-doubt, and tarnishes the task with negativity. It’s complicated, but if it’s handled judiciously, the outcome will be what’s best for all.

Once we establish the team, it’s exciting to start a new project together. Team building is critical for the success of its pursuits. Once the ball is in motion, each will have a part in carrying it downfield. If everyone does their part, it’ll run smoothly, be effective and produce excellence.

Even though God invites all to Heaven through His Son Jesus, He selected twelve disciples to be His initial team to build a church and lead others. He spent a lot of time with them, mentoring them, leading them, and ministering to them. He showed unconditional love, sacrifice, faithfulness, holiness, and the essence of who He is. They had the perfect role model before them to learn from and to follow.

We’re all chosen by God to enter His kingdom. We can either accept His invitation or reject it. He gives us the choice, so it’s up to us to decide. Do we want to be on God’s team to change the world? Or do we want to live our lives without Him, with no hope of Heaven?

If we choose Jesus, it involves sacrifice. We must deny ourselves, pick up the cross daily, and follow Him. It’ll mean breaking bad habits, changing our priorities, or even getting out of toxic relationships. When we follow Jesus, He purifies us, cleanses us from all unrighteousness, and pours His love into our hearts. We become one with Him and He makes His home in us forever.

Eventually, He’ll transform us from the inside out to be vessels of His love for all humanity. Being on God’s team is not only an ultimate and essential experience, but it is life changing for us and for all those whom we intersect lives with. It affects all of us as we enjoy abundant living now and for all eternity. So, choose wisely and choose Jesus. It will make all the difference in the world.

“Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:3-4

“But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.” Exodus 18:21-22
