Special Day

It’s the big day. A celebration, a feast, a performance or a milestone. We’ve prepared for weeks, if not months, and the day has finally arrived. It’ll be exciting to live out the moments and enjoy every one of them. We want to stockpile precious memories of the event so that when we look back on it, we will re-experience the warm feelings and happy thoughts all over again.

We always want our big day to go perfectly. From every detail to the grandiose, we want the event to be a success and to go as planned. But as we all know, we may run across a few surprises along the way. These unexpected occurrences can throw us off and derail the flow of our view of perfection. They force us to think on our feet, improvise, and reestablish balance, so that we can resume our carefully laid out plan once again.

When we look back on this day, it’s those moments of surprise that we remember the most. The things that were unexpected. These obstacles created a lot of anxiety as we made on-the-spot adjustments to our perfect plan.

But as we live out our plans, we realize they aren’t so perfect after all. We improvise modifications along the way. We learn from our mistakes, make changes for the better, then fine tune it for the next go-around.

No matter how hard we try, we are not in control of all things. God is in control and we can trust Him. His way is always perfect and His plan is what’s best for all. Even though we’ll never reach the stage of perfection on Earth, it is something that we can leave in God’s hands. For He is perfect and His will shall prevail.
