Try Something New

We might be pleasantly surprised.

It can be a little scary trying something new. Whether it's new recipes, new procedures, new restaurants, new apps, or new ways of doing things, we may be a little hesitant for fear of failure or disappointment.

If we feel a little extra courageous that day, we’ll opt to get out of our comfort zone and try something new. Sometimes new experiences disappoint us, but other times they delight us. Then we’re so glad that we ventured out and tried it.

If fear is at the root, we need to examine why. If what we fear is unfounded, then we can douse that fear with confidence. But if we base our fears on actual danger, then we need to evaluate the risk in relation to the reward.

God wants us to be fearless, but He also wants us to be wise.

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16

He wants us to venture out of our comfort zone and stretch our inner character. Growth will result whenever we face challenges. If we stay in the safety net of our comfort zone and never strive for something more, our growth will be stagnant. The more we grow in Him, the more confident we will become, and the closer we will be to God.

He will provide for us and give us a wide variety of opportunities along our journey. If we flex the muscles of our character and tackle something bigger than ourselves, God will give us the strength and power to overcome and grow through it.

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

“We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” Colossians 1:9-12
